A leading U.S.-based insurer reached out to us to help develop its first wellness platform. The goal for the platform was to share information from wearable devices featuring digital health applications to offer challenges to employees and customers with rewards and support.

The insurer sought to improve its value by shifting focus from just its consumer branding to increasing consumer engagement through wellness. It wanted to build a simple-to-use integration hub that was designed to connect with an ever-growing number of wellness devices and wearables. This would feed data and measurements into a wellness platform where users would receive automated coaching through what the insurer called challenges and healthy journeys.

We used lean iterative testing and exploration (LITE), rapid prototyping and agile software development methodologies as we managed the development, operations and hosting of this application. We architected and deployed a data integration platform that allowed third-party API providers with health and wellness digital solutions to connect and share data.

The wellness platform that we created aggregates information from multiple devices, wearables and mobile health applications to create a picture of an individual’s health. A customizable analytics dashboard covering a variety of health categories, including sleep, diet, medical adherence, mood and activity, allows users to derive valuable insights from their data. The platform also includes a health goal framework that allows employers to facilitate corporate wellness and incentive programs, while members can track their own health objectives.

The insurer deployed an application to more than three million self-insured customers throughout the U.S. This wellness platform has attracted more than 200,000 unique visitors per day.
